With all of the kind notes of condolences after our recent loss of our Cocker Spaniel, Andrew, I was again reminded how lucky we are to live in such a special place as West Branch.

The one thing it also reminded me of is how many folks in West Branch have pets.  As you have probably noticed in good weather we spend a lot of time on our from porch and really enjoy seeing and greeting all of you and your pets walking by.  I would venture to say we probably know more canine friends' names than their people.  We are especially fond of dogs, but love all animals.  Pets of all kinds can really brighten up the lives of their human friends.  Yes there can be a few minor problems with having a pet, but the fun, love and companionship they give us all is well worth any of the minor problems.  I have always said our boys (the dogs) are like children that never grow up.  You never have to worry about those teen years where they "know everything", learning to drive, staying out too late, education cost or many of the other things you face raising children, but you continually receive all the love and devotion of the pet.  Plus they are good for your health, look at all the exercise you get maintaining, walking or caring for your pet friends.  You may have seen me getting my exercise walking around the front yards with that little red shovel.

I thought it might be fun and could also be beneficial to set up a page dedicated to all the Faithful Pet Friends that we have in West Branch.

The fun part would be to see the photos and bios (if you don't mind sharing the information) of all the pets in West Branch.

The beneficial part could be that we will have photos of the pets on the website that could be used to alert others if they happen to get lost.

If you have any digital photos of your pets (dogs, cats, birds, whatever) I would really appreciate it if you would send them to me to post on the webpage.  Also I think it would be nice to include a page for our beloved friends who are no longer with us as a tribute to the memory.

Above you will find 2 links.  One is to the current residents and the other is to the residents who have unfortunately left us.

It would be great if you could also include a little biography of the pet with the photo.  However, if you are uncomfortable with the data being posted on the internet please send the photos anyway.  If there is no biography information I will post the photo with an anonymous ID#.  I will then maintain a secure list of the ID#'s and family name and contact if we would have to contact you about the pet.  You can see the examples on the linked pages.

If you do not have a digital photo of your pet I would be glad to take one for you. Email to West Branch Comm Group or call 292-0642.

Just few days ago, we had 2 incidents of lost pets. Dogs in these case that were spotted in West Branch and thanks to concerned neighbors the dogs were located and returned to their families.

  1. The first incident involved a dog that wandered into a neighbor's yard.  The neighbor was able to catch the dog and better than that she took the dog to her vet and it had a micro chip that gave them the information to contact the family and return him to his home.  This sure speaks well for the micro chip.  If you have a pet that may stray away from home it might be a good idea to consider the micro chip.

  2. The second incident involved two beautiful Border Collies that were spotted running loose in West Branch.  They were too shy to get close enough to catch.  However a couple of neighbors recognized the dogs and contacted the family in Fairfield.  Both of the dogs were found and home safely that evening.

Thanks to the efforts of a few concerned residents, there were 2 happy endings to these stories.
